to a variety of people. A recent example of the creativity and invention uses to engage is found in podcast #120 – Teaching the Declaration of Independence as a Break Up Letter on his blog "Speaking of History. " Today’s podcast describes one of the activities I use in class to teach about the Declaration of Independence. Students often don’t really understand the purpose of the document and this activity usually helps. I act as if I have found a note on the floor of my class the day before after school and then I read it to the class. It is a break up letter and at the end the students are stunned to learn that it is from “the American Colonies”. I have included the text of the letter that I use and the podcast has a recording of what happens when I read the letter in class and the discussion that follows… I act as if I have found a note on the floor of my class the day before after school and then I read it to the class. As part of this process Dr Laurence Buckman Chairman of the BMA’s General Practitioners Committee (GPC) has taken part in a new BMA podcast in which he answers questions submitted by GPs from across the country. These include queries about the potential impact of the Government’s actions on the next generation of GPs and what the BMA is doing to put its message across to patients the profession and Parliament. The podcast has been emailed to GPs who are members of the BMA and is available in audio and video format to non-members on the BMA website. Speaking about the podcast Dr Buckman said: “The Prime Minister’s decision to impose unilateral changes to the GP contract will affect every single GP and patient in the UK. Whatever spin the Government wishes to put on it this move will place GPs under intense strain and will have a serious impact on the public. ” “The importance of this current situation means the BMA has a responsibility to listen and communicate with GPs in every way possible. Podcasting is an effective method of allowing hard working doctors to get information in an easy short and straight to the point fashion… Whatever spin the Government wishes to put on it this move will place GPs under intense strain and will have a serious impact on the public. ” “The importance of this current situation means the BMA has a responsibility to listen and communicate with GPs in every way possible. Podcasting is an effective method of allowing hard working doctors to get information in an easy short and straight to the point fashion. It also allows GPs on the ground to put questions directly to the BMA so that we can give them answers to the issues that GPs are really talking about. ” Notes To view Laurence Buckman’s podcast to GPs please.
