The street people only know him as The Preacherman. Every night after 10 p. he comes to a bullet-riddled corner of the Fruitvale District in East Oakland to read from a Bible to up to 50 homeless people. Then he hands out a few dollars apiece some blankets and food.

First up is Richard Sennett and his absorbing new book The Craftsman which challenges the idea that being a craftsmen must necessarily involve manual labour. So could an estate agent be a craftsman? You can hear his reply on the Haycast. Next up is Elizabeth Pisani whose book The Wisdom of Whores has a thesis every bit as eye-catching as its title. Pisani used to be part of what she calls the “Aids mafia” and admits to being involved in the mid-90s in the campaign to talk up the fear of Aids.

She aims to attract advertisers keen to reach the live music fans that the 3 Minute Gig videos are attracting worldwide.

The Northern Grid for Learning awards will be held on Wednesday June 18 at the Ramside Hall Hotel Durham. It supports education through ICT in schools across the region. The schoolchildren were taught to use the podcast technology by a team of specialists from Radio Anywhere and the clips can be downloaded from the school’s website. Acting headteacher Mark Atkinson said: “The school is nominated in the Surprise Me category which aims to reward innovation and new ideas in schools. Star FM has helped raise the profile of the school and has helped people outside the school keep up to date with what is happening inside. “The radio station helps to improve the children’s ICT skills enhance their confidence and improve their speech and listening skills. Above all else the children really enjoy doing it.

Denise Trine PrairieLand RC&D will check into making buttons. Podcasting class information should be better explained. Podcasting can be used to make videos or slide shows for web pages. Members were encouraged to learn how to podcast. A total of 12 geocachers have participated in the treasure hunt. One geocacher was from Colorado. They were checking out the Sandhill Cranes and found the geocache in Aurora.
